Everyone calm down... It's just a case of reputation corruption!!! PANIC about the disease later
Many of you may have seen or heard about the Wesley Hospital Lock-down in the media this week. A very deadly outbreak of legionnaires' disease has left 2 patients in intensive care and has placed the whole hospital under threat of the disease. As sad as it is for the infected patients and patients at risk (not to mention the extended family) it's pretty detrimental for the hospital itself. Reputation is a bit of a roller coaster, it's almost like an endless cycle of mood swings, susceptible to the good and the bad and receiving bittersweet responses from the public. It's something that needs to be maintained each and every day and something that can be lost at the blink of an eye... or the first sign of legionnaires disease in the case of Wesley. Rebuilding the somewhat damaged reputation of this reputable hospital is something I encourage all my readers to keep an eye on over the following months. It will be interesting to see how the PR team handles this crisis.
However, I can't see any good publicity heading Wesley's way after reading that the hospital failed to report the outbreak of disease in an appropriate time, as the executive director of UnitingCare Health admitted that ' Wesley Hospital could have done more to ensure the case of Legionnaires' disease'
Hmm...... step one in crisis management is NEVER to deny or shift the blame. It would have looked so much better if the hospital took more initiative in declaring the decease in the first place.
